Report of the project:

Logo of the GeoERA scientific project FRAME (Forecasting and Assessing Europe's Strategic Raw Materials needs)

As part of the GeoERA project FRAME investigates the availability of critical and strategic raw materials. The underlying motivation is the EU’s import dependence on these raw materials and the foreseeable future demand increase.
To evaluate Europe’s resource potential FRAME focusses on the following thematic topics:

  • Mapping of deposits of critical and strategic raw materials in Europe
  • Critical raw materials in phosphate and black shale deposits
  • Critical raw materials for renewable energy technologies
  • Conflict free Nb/Ta-supply
  • Resource potential of historic mining regions

Within FRAME BGR will lead the work package "Historic Mine Sites Revisited". The work package will investigate the resource potential of CRM in historic mine sites and regions in Europe. Case studies of deposits will be compiled by the project partners and deposit specific information will be included in the GeoERA Information Platform Project (GIP-P).
