BGR's contributions to the 43rd Congress and 60th anniversary of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH)

This year's congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists "Groundwater and society: 60 years of IAH" was jointly organised by the French and German National Chapters of the IAH and took place from 25th to 29th Septermber 2016 in the Congress Center Le Corum of Montpellier, France.

In this occasion, special attention was paid to the influence and interrelationships between hydrogeology and socio-economic issues and developments. "What is the contribution of hydrogeologists to society?" This question defined the framework for the discussions. In addition to the classical areas of hydrogeology, the conference also provided space for topics such as participation, economic approaches to basic water management, and knowledge transfer and exchange with more than 800 registered contributions.

The 60th anniversary of the IAH was celebrated with more than 4100 members of 125 countries from around the world. The founding and development of the IAH - and with it the history of hydrogeology - were elaborated in exciting speeches with old picture and video material.

The presentations and posters were sub-divided into the following eight thematic areas:

  • T1 - WHAT ROLE DO OR SHOULD HYDROGEOLOGISTS PLAY IN OUR SOCIETIES?
  • T2 - HYDROGEOLOGY(ISTS) AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
  • T3 - HYDROGEOLOGISTS FOR THE FUTURE: INFORMATION, EXCHANGE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • T4 - ECONOMICS IN GROUNDWATER AND GROUNDWATER MANAGEMENT
  • T5 - GROUNDWATER, AND GLOBAL & CLIMATE CHANGE
  • T6 - ACTIVE MANAGEMENT OF GROUNDWATER IN THE WATER CYCLE
  • T7 - GROUNDWATER USES AND MANAGING GROUNDWATER USE CONFLICTS
  • T8 - PROGRESS IN CONCEPTUAL MODELS, TOOLS AND METHODS

Geoscientists from BGR delivered three presentations and four posters as listed below.
